When is the best time to visit Gudauri for skiing?
The ski season in Gudauri typically runs from late December through mid-April. For the 2025–2026 season, lifts are scheduled to open on December 27. The best snow conditions are usually in February and March. Gudauri is famous for its high-altitude powder and sunny days.
How do I get to Gudauri from Tbilisi?
Gudauri is about 120 km from Tbilisi, a 2-2.5 hour drive via the Georgian Military Highway. You can take a marshrutka from Didube station, a private transfer (GoTrip), or rent a 4WD vehicle. Note that the Jvari Pass can occasionally close during heavy snowstorms.
Where should I stay in Gudauri?
New Gudauri is the most popular area, offering ski-in/ski-out apartments, restaurants, and a vibrant atmosphere. Lower Gudauri and Upper Gudauri offer more traditional hotels and a quieter vibe. Key hotels include Gudauri Lodge and Marco Polo.
Is Gudauri good for freeriding?
Gudauri is a world-class freeride destination. Its vast treeless slopes and high altitude provide incredible off-piste opportunities. However, always check avalanche risks and consider hiring a local guide for safety.

What kind of trails does Gudauri have?
Gudauri has over 70km of groomed trails including green (beginner), blue (intermediate), red (advanced), and black (expert) runs. Mount Sadzele (3,276m) offers the highest lift-accessible terrain.
Are there ski schools and rentals in Gudauri?
Yes, numerous rental shops are located in New Gudauri and near the main lift stations. Professional ski schools offer lessons for all ages in English, Georgian, and Russian.
What are the lift operating hours?
Lifts typically operate from 10:00 to 17:00. During peak season and on weekends, night skiing may be available on specific trails (usually Pirveli).
